Too Hot To Handle

So much for the frequent updates, huh? Well, I did that group running thingy for a while, but it's different when you're not training for something.

So anyway, my friend from work and I just finished Run On!'s Too Hot To Handle 5k, and I thought I'd share a little piece of advice. They say that good judgment comes from experience and that experience comes from bad judgment, and as I prefer to learn from other people's experience before I experience it myself, I thought I would impart these words of wisdom to my faithful readers (ha): it is not wise to drink an entire bottle of wine by oneself the night prior to the run, even if you do go to bed at 8 p.m.

I was fine and finished a bit slower than my first 5k last summer, but last year's was in a different city with a much cooler temperature and lower humidity (and less alcohol prior). So all in all, it was a good learning experience and I hope to do another 5k soon to see how much not drinking the night before will help :).

For now, I am off to enjoy the rest of my Saturday. Once I see pics from the race, I might post them. We'll see. Oh, and I don't know my official time yet. Maybe I'll give my time after I run another to show the results of my little experiment...

smoked 'em!

I have neglected the blog for a while, so here's a quick update:

I did the race, I ran the race, I finished the race. I didn't walk right for a few days, but considering how jacked my knee was, I was pretty pleased (I was not, however, pleased about rehabbing it, but Lee Kafer at MCA is awesome and did a fabulous job!). As my friend said, the race probably would have been a lot easier if I wasn't a gimp at the time, but hey--no one said it would be easy!

My left knee went numb about mile 5 (probably a good thing!), I really wanted a beer around mile 8 and mile 12 dragged on and on, but other than that all I remember is fan support, seeing my family, the banner my niece made, the TNT mentors (much love to Chris and Fred!) and my friend who was so awesome to show up and show some love (shout out to Scoggs!). It was great and felt awesome. I was so out of it when I finished, it was like being drunk but extremely sober at the same time... I don't know how, but everything managed not to cramp until I stopped running... but when it did--ouch!

I must say, I was extremely disappointed that I wasn't starving when I finished... I was totally looking forward to eating a huge lunch after, but I wasn't hungry at all. In fact, I didn't get hungry til the next day at lunch, and then we all hit Benito's for some cheese sauce. :0)

Ok so anyway, back to the real point of this post... I just smoked my entire running group, and it was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! We aren't the elite, but I must say, I really did awesome. We were just doing times today (like 20 minutes out, 20 minutes back) and I went out the farthest before we turned around, and then brought it back home way before the others finished (which means I had to pass everyone too). I don't get to say I finished first often, so I am taking the opportunity! I don't usually toot my own horn, but TOOOOT TOOOOOT! To say the least, it was badass. There was a gorgeous sunset on the lake, which just made it all the more amazing.

Well, anyway, I figured what better way to get the Team Hud blog going than to write about a badass run, so there you have it. I'll try to keep this updated more frequently, so stay tuned!
